| On the 20th of September 2003, at the Stars Palace Hall in Grand Hotel Abshi, Ehden, North Lebanon, the Ehdenites were on a date with one of the greatest events that ever happened in their summer village.
A man who
has had a lot of influence on people, generation after generation, was about to be
honored for his life time achievements, both as a priest of the congregation, and as writer, historian, and a teacher.
The ceremony was organized and sponsored by The Friends of Father
Yammine, the Ancients Maronite Ecclesiastic Patriarchal Committee, and the Al-Yammine Academy both in Lebanon and Abroad. Many thanks also go to Grand Hotel Abshi for his generous hospitality.
The hall was full with people, young, middle and old, priest, nuns, and others, witnessing that incredible moment with a lot of enthusiasm. They were all excited and happy, because such an event, was supposed to happen a long time ago.
Nevertheless, everybody stood when the Lebanese National Anthem echoed all over the place, and the ceremony began. Mr. Antoine Al-Awal, the host spoke introducing the
Honoring Observance of Father and Doctor Youssef Yammine.
Then after him, his Excellency, the Bishop Boulos Emile Saade uttered beautiful words describing Father Yammine as a Priest, and his dedication to the understanding of the Christian Message and Faith.
Moments ahead, following the applause, Dr. Youssef Hourany, a famous historian himself, talked about Dr. Yammine, the Historian, and the importance of his books in certain related matters.
Then came the word of Dr. Fouad Al-Darazi; he spoke about Fathers Yammine Scientific knowledge and approach concerning the atomic theory and his profound studies in that difficult field.
After him, Poet Murice Awad, a well known figure in Lebanon, took hold of the stage, and with a poetic style, pictured Father Yammine, his poetry, and the spiritual quintessence and transparent depth that give them the power to glitter.
Following that, Mr. Jean Mrad, spoke about Father Yammine, the teacher who would guide the people and especially the neophytes towards a more comprehension of the self and of God in a religious Christian manner.
Eng. Antoine Iskandar, who came next, and on behalf of the friends of Father Yammine in the world, talked about the special friendship that bounds them with him, as a spiritual father.
Finally, the last speaker, Mr. Ghassan kaadou, and on behalf of the Friends of Father Yammine in
Lebanon, mentioned the many extraordinary attributes, his character, is endowed with.
After warm applause, Father Yammine received four Armors. Mr. Jean Mrad, the president of Ancient Maronite Ecclesiastic Patriarchal Committee put forward the Armor of Loyalty; Mr. Pierre Yammine, the president of Al-Yammine Academy, presented the Armor of Brethren; then, Karim El-Koussa, on behalf of the Friends of Father Yammine, offered the Armor of Friendship, and the fourth, the Armor of the Immigrants of Venezuela was given by Mr. Sarkis Yammine.
Then, lastly, Mr. Nassif Kaloush, the Mouhafez of the North district of Lebanon, and representing the President of the Republic of Lebanon, General Emile Lahoud, presented the Bronze Medal of Knowledge.
At the end of the Celebration, Father Yammine delivered his words of thanks with so much of authenticity, and a booklet on his life and achievements was offered to the audience.
Biography:
Father Yammine was born in 1933, up in the mountains of Ehden, North Lebanon. He began his Ecclesiastic studies in 1947, and later on, continued his secondary and University studies at the (USJ), or the University of St. Joseph, founded by the
Jesuit Fathers in Beirut.
In 1962, he was ordained into the priesthood of Zgharta, and later took further and additional studies in his majors in Rome, and in Paris at the Sorbonne University.
In 1966, he began new studies in Philosophy at the Maronite Patriarchal Ecclesiastic College in Gazir, and also at the Sagesse Institute of Beirut, and finished in 1974.
Ever since that time, he lives in Ehden-Zgharta, consecrating his life for the service of the society as a priest, and being also an author and a researcher. |
